A Family-Owned Excavating Company in Central Virginia

Dwayne Griffith started Griffith Excavating in April 2004, and the company still works the way it did then: locally owned, locally run, and on the end of a phone rather than behind a call center. We operate out of 122 Oak Haven Lane, Mineral, Virginia 23117, which puts our yard within an easy drive of most of the properties we work on — Louisa and Mineral first, then Charlottesville, Orange, Goochland, Henrico, Beaverdam, Gum Spring, Partlow and the communities around Lake Anna.

Over twenty-five years of experience sits behind that. The company is a VA-licensed contractor and a Certified Responsible Land Disturber, which matters more than it sounds: erosion and sediment control is where a lot of small site jobs go wrong, and it is the part county inspectors look at hardest.

What We Do

The core of the business is excavation and site grading — digging, shaping and leveling ground so that whatever is built on it behaves. Around that we do demolition, land and lot clearing, basement excavation, driveway and private road construction, culvert replacement, trench drain installation, yard drainage solutions, pond construction and repair, erosion and sediment control, and hauling.

How We Work

Every job starts with a free on-site estimate, because the ground tells you things a phone call cannot — soil, slope, access, what is buried and where the water goes. After that visit you get a written number and a realistic start window. We are open Monday through Saturday, 7:00 am to 6:00 pm, and we take after-hours emergency appointments when a site is unsafe or actively washing out. We work for homeowners, builders, and commercial and municipal clients, and we take cash and check.
